Flourist Mill & Bakery is one of my favourite places in the city. They’re known for their freshly milled flours and breads, but their menu really has it all—hearty grain bowls, flaky pastries, seasonal soups and rotational daily specials that pair perfectly with a latte or a bevy. They describe themselves as “where friends can gather over a meal, a cup of coffee, or a pastry – and catch up, shop, browse recipes – or all of the above.” and that is what I find myself doing at least once a month.
The friendly bakery is frequented by local moms, with strollers taking over the patio and toddlers sifting through Flourist’s public cookbook selection. It’s a favourite for post-Stroller Fitness classes at Trout Lake.
Menu highlights:
- Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookie — A standout made with sifted Red Fife flour and rich dark chocolate. Salted just right, it’s their all-time best-seller.
- Savoury Toasts—Cheese Dream Toast, Beans on Toast, Hummus Mushroom Toast, all crowd-pleasers. Available daily from 8AM-5PM Sun-Wed, and 8AM-3PM Thurs-Sat.
- Wood-fired Pizza—vegetarian pies on their signature three-day fermented crust. Favourites include Margherita, mushroom, and inventive squash & hazelnut (perfect with a glass of wine or spritz). Available 5-8PM, Thurs-Sat.
- Sourdough Loaves — Flourist’s bread and butter including Sourdough Starter, Pan Loaf, Seeded Pan Loaf, pillars of their bread offerings.
