If you’re looking for some old-timey family fun, try the classic Festive Village at the Burnaby Village Museum this holiday season. It’s packed with things that make little ones light up — twinkle lights, music, treats, and of course, Santa — plus you can explore period-specific exhibits and learn a little bit of 1920s history. The best part? Admission is free. It’s on until January 2nd.
What you can expect:
photos with Santa
Festive Village offers free Santa meet-and-greets with an attendant who will take your photos for you. The lineup wasn’t very long, and there was plenty of room to unload diaper bags, strollers, etc.
Interestingly, Father Christmas is looking a little boho this year (check out the photo below).
Note: Santa is only available from 2–5pm and 6–8pm on weekends. You’ll find him inside the charming Elworth House at the far left end of the museum.
heritage-themed Christmas lights
The whole village transforms into a glowing, old-fashioned holiday town, complete with light sculptures, decorated storefronts, and that charming small-town vibe. It’s like stepping into a W Network holiday movie set in the 1920s.
It’s ideal for a stroller walk at dusk — babies are mesmerized by the lights.
live entertainment
Throughout the season, you’ll catch live performances like local orchestra ensembles or carollers. You can check out their full events calendar here to plan your visit accordingly.
a vintage carousel (toddler heaven)
The museum’s iconic 1912 C.W. Parker Carousel is a must-do for anyone with a toddler. Rides are usually $2.71 each, and kids can ride with a parent. Even if your baby is too small, it’s fun just to stand and watch — the lights, music, and motion are a built-in sensory activity.
For young train lovers, there’s also a beautifully restored 1921 tram to explore right next to the carousel.
food & concession
There’s a cozy (and of course retro) concession on-site where you can grab hot chocolate, pastries, or a toddler’s go-to: chicken fingers and fries. It’s all very stroller-friendly, with lots of spots to perch and warm up.
We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy. The parking lot fills up fast though, so plan ahead!
