trees coffee & the new collingwood park

If you’re looking for a walkable, stroller-friendly outing on the East side, pair Trees Cheesecake & Organic Coffee at Joyce Collingwood with a play session at the newly renovated Collingwood Park.

Start at Trees, where you’ll find great fair trade organic coffee, baked goods, and their famous cheesecake (voted best in Vancouver). The staff is really friendly and there’s cozy indoor seating with usually enough room to park a stroller if you want to sit down and enjoy a piece of cheesecake or a sandwich. My typical order is an iced matcha in the stroller (less spillage than a hot cup, IYKYK) or their swiss water decaf americano and a spinach feta quiche. Trees also has a loyalty card, so if you grab one of them, your 10th coffee and piece of cheesecake is free.

From there, it’s just a short stroll to the NEW and upgraded Collingwood Park. The park is incredibly baby- and toddler-friendly, with:

A huge sandpit perfect for digging, scooping, and playing
A water park with fountains, splash areas and showers for clean up afterwards
A zipline for bigger kids (or brave toddlers with help!) – I tested this and it’s FUN
Swings for all ages, including bucket swings for the littles
Climbing structures, slides, and soft rubber ground covering
A toddler trampoline that has a great amount of bounce
Little kid-approved seating for snack breaks
Plenty of open green space for picnics, tummy time, or stroller meet-ups
Bathroom facilities (important) and water fountains

Because it’s fall, the park is currently full of leaves so I would wrap your little one up in a Muddy Buddy and/or some boots. For bigger kids, there’s also a basketball court and small skate park.

My little guy is only crawling and not big enough for a lot of the play structures, but we had a great time with the interactive motor function stations and the trampoline.

Note: the play structure is designed for children 5-12 years old so it’s tight to get around for adults/caregivers.

Both Trees and Collingwood park are just steps away from Joyce/Collingwood skytrain station, so it’s a really accessible outing.
