I loved this hike pre-baby and love it even more now with baby in tow. At the top, the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area offers scenic views of the Burrard Inlet, shady forest-covered steps and the reward of a coffee shop and play park. We took our Osprey Poco LT Lightweight Child Carrier backpack which was perfect for naps (suncover included) and provided plenty of storage for water bottles, snacks and extra diapers.
You can follow Burnaby Mountain to Rose Garden from AllTrails, which starts up the Powerlines Trail then leads onto the mountain. It’s a “moderate” 9.8-km out-and-back hike that takes an average of 2h55m to complete and is open year-round. If you’re not into hiking, you can also just utilize the free parking at the top of Burnaby Mountain and enjoy the amenities.
One of the highlights up there is the Rose Garden, a beautifully maintained spot bursting with colourful blooms in spring and summer — you may even get treated to a wedding ceremony. Just steps away, you’ll find Kamui Mintara Playground of the Gods playground with swings, slides and a rope gym.
And no mom outing is complete without a coffee stop — thankfully, Bastion Café is right at the top of the hill, offering locally roasted coffee, lattes and delicous pastries. Grab a matcha, take in the mountain air and enjoy the views while your little one munches on a snack or a rocks a stroller nap. You can check out Bastion’s full menu here. Note: the cafe is seasonal and will be back open June 2026.
Once you’re done exploring, utilize the full public bathrooms for a diaper change then make your way back down the mountain. My little guy napped the whole way down.
